Ayr Townhead is used by ScotRail to stable units overnight that finish or are scheduled to start their duties at Ayr, Largs, Ardrosssan and Kilmarnock.

Class 380s, along with a couple of Class 156 units can be found here overnight for cleaning and stabling.
