Edinburgh CrossRail is the term used to describe cross-Edinburgh services, specifically coined with the opening of stations at Newcraighall and Brunstane on 4th June 2002.
Services initially ran from Bathgate and Dunblane to Newcraighall, calling at Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley, giving a cross-Edinburgh service.
In 2009, service patterns were changed so that Fife services would run through to Newcraighall, while Dunblane and Bathgate services terminated at Waverley. This was due to the forth coming reopening of Airdrie-Bathgate and to improve reliability at Waverley by concentrating the through services to the north side of the station.
