Edinburgh Tram
The plan is to build an integrated tram network in phases.
It is hoped that the first trams will be running on street in 2010.
In March 2006, the Scottish Parliament voted to pass the Edinburgh Tram (Line One) and Edinburgh Tram (Line Two) Bills.
A Business Case will be presented to the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Executive in late 2006.
On approval, work to move all of the underground cables and pipes will start in preparation for the construction of the tram network itself.
Alfred McAlpine has been appointed as the contractor responsible for the diversion and protection of utilities along the proposed Edinburgh tram route under tie's pioneering Multi-Utilities Diversion Framework Agreement (MUDFA) contract.
Utility diversion work is scheduled to commence in March/April 2007.
TRANSDEV was announced as the operator of the Edinburgh tram network in May 2004. The company was appointed to work in partnership with tie through the planning stages of the network and the delivery of the Bills through Parliament.
In May 2014, the line was opened between the airport and York place.
