National Express East Coast (NXEC), ran the InterCity East Coast franchise, from 9th December 2007, taking over from GNER. The DfT removed the franchise from them on 15th November 2009 as they were unable to make their franchise payments. The franchise is now run by East Coast, a DfT run company.
NXEC opereates passenger train services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross, Yorkshire, the North East of England and Scotland.
Trains running north beyond Edinburgh serve Glasgow Central (via Carstairs), Aberdeen (4 trains a day) and Inverness (1 train a day).
The NXEC route covers 920 miles, carries over 17 million passengers a year, with 3,100 staff.
ALL NXEC services offer free Wi-Fi to all customers.
A HST refurbishment scheme is now taking place, bringing them up to the same standard as the Mk4 trains. Many of the Refurbished HSTs are now in service.
