Waverley Line Reopening
The first slice of Scottish Executive funding towards the planned restoration of rail services to the central Borders has been released. On 14 September 2006, Transport Minister Tavish Scott announced the allocation of £29m to allow work including surveying and land purchase to take place.
Transport Scotland, the transport delivery agency answerable to Scottish Ministers, is committed to providing in principle £115 million funding in 2002 prices towards the project with the rest to be funded by the councils and other interests.
On 14th June 2006 the Waverley Railway (Scotland) Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament by 114 votes to one with one abstention.
The Waverley Railway successfully completed its long journey through the parliamentary process on 24th July when the Queen granted Royal Assent to the Waverley Railway (Scotland) Act.

In September 2015, the line was officially opened by the Queen.
