London North Eastern Railway took over the running of the Intercity East Coast franchise from 24th June 2018.
Previously it was run by Virgin East Coast (1st March 2015 to 23rd June 2018), and before that East Coast which was run by the DfT through Directly Operated Railways.
The LNER route covers 920 miles, carries over 17 million passengers a year, with 3,100 staff.
A HST refurbishment scheme was completed by October 2009, which brought them up to the same standard as the Mk4 trains.

Diesel High Speed Trains (HSTs)
Class 67 locos hired from DB Cargo to act as "Thunderbirds".
Class 08 shunting locos for use at Craigentinny Depot.
The new Intercity Express Class 800 trains, known as "Azuma", entered service in May 2019, followed by Class 801 trains in September that year.
All High Speed Trains (HSTs) will be withdrawn in December 2019.
