London North Eastern Railway took over the running of the Intercity East Coast franchise from 24th June 2018.

Previously it was run by Virgin East Coast (1st March 2015 to 23rd June 2018), and before that East Coast which was run by the DfT through Directly Operated Railways.

London North Eastern Railway

London North Eastern Railway operates passenger train services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross, Yorkshire, the North East of England and Scotland. Trains running north beyond Edinburgh serve Glasgow Central (via Carstairs), Aberdeen (4 trains a day) and Inverness (1 train a day).

The LNER route covers 920 miles, carries over 17 million passengers a year, with 3,100 staff.

A HST refurbishment scheme was completed by October 2009, which brought them up to the same standard as the Mk4 trains.
